3 Tips for Enjoying a Day Outdoors in Your San Clemente Retirement Community
Last updated 9 months ago
San Clemente is the crown jewel of Orange County—with beautiful sandy beaches, sparkling ocean water, and fresh Southern California breezes, it’s difficult to stay indoors on any given sunny day. If you’re wondering how to make a day outdoors at your retirement community more enjoyable, read on for some helpful tips.
- Explore your community’s planned activities. Do you feel like attending an organized activity or event, or would you rather see where the day takes you and relax? There’s no wrong answer! There are likely many fun events happening in your community, so keep abreast of goings-on so you don’t miss anything exciting. At San Clemente Villas by the Sea, we have many scheduled outdoor activities, including picnics, pool parties, and scenic drives. If you’d rather take the day to relax and enjoy yourself quietly, don’t forget a good book or magazine and focus on luxuriating.
- Stay hydrated. If you’re feeling thirsty, you're already slightly dehydrated. Lying out under the hot Southern Californian sun can cause you to sweat and quickly become dehydrated. Keep a water source nearby, like a water bottle or canteen, or enjoy a summery drink like lemonade to stay hydrated. Sip your drink often, even if you don’t feel particularly thirsty. Avoid alcohol, which could increase the risk of dehydration.
- Protect yourself from the sun. Wear sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays, and don’t forget to reapply every couple of hours or if you get wet. To prevent the top of your head from getting burned, wear a hat anytime you’re in direct sunlight. Lastly, protect your eyes from sun damage by wearing sunglasses.
